Contact Grabber
If you are a social media website developer , sometimes you might search for grabbing contacts from a particular email account if the password is given. I also did the same. In most of the cases it did not work properly. But recently i got a contact grabber from phpclasses.org which works perfectly on Gmail, Hotmail, Rediff, Yahoo, Orkut, MySpace, Indiatimes, Linkedin , AOL and lycos
But the zip file i got is not well arranged, so it shows some errors . I arranged it in proper way and uploaded here:
Download:
http://sajithmr.com/downloads/grabber.zip
(Under GNU Public License)
Using this php code , you can export the email contacts as csv file.
Here is the actual source website : http://www.phpclasses.org/browse/package/3895.html

Yes, these kind of tools do add a great value to the social media websites.
While working with one our clients, we used a similar open source php class/function. Sooner, we found that, the login script/method kept changing for most of the service providers (Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, etc). For sure, these providers dont use the same methods, atleast the login variables are called differently and the contacts are stored different. Particularly, AOL at times have had different scripts for emails with AOL.com & different for AOL.in.
Since, then have used the contact importer script provided by Svetlozar Petrov (paid service) and they have kept up by giving constant updates in the last year (about one update every two months for each of the email hosts). This is where OpenId / Oauth become more useful.

This is a interesting concept. If you can integrate a mail() into this, it will be very useful to grabbing contacts from yahoo, msn and gmail.
I particularly like the way it works with orkut. Thanks a lot of sharing

great find, but mail services update their site designs from time to time (the for $$$ importer from improsys gets updates every 4-5 months)… I wonder if this class also gets updated when mail services change their sites.
